who wishes to preserve the Wren Cemetery to provide education to those seeking knowledge regarding their heritage relations to historical families that lived in or around Boerne, Kendall County, Texas during slavery and the civil war. The grave headstones themselves tell a very interesting story…. You have to see them to believe them. Examples of some of the information from visiting the grave sites has been included in articles prepared by the Genealogical Society of Kendall County and pictures of the headstones are on the Kendall County, TXGenWeb Project. Also, John Benedict recently wrote an article titled “History of the Wren Cemetary as of 10/01/18. Here is a link: https://hcarcheology.org/wp-content/uploads/Fieldwork/CurrentFieldwork/History-Wren-Cemetery-Part-I-Feb2019final.pdf

Visit to Historic Wren Cemetery
On, Saturday, February 23, 2019,
For February's Magical History Tour, the Kendall County Historical Commission co-hosted this event. In observance of Black History Month, the program included a visit to the historic Wren Cemetery. The program began at 10:00 AM in the Library's Community Room. After an overview, those interested carpooled over to the Wren Cemetery.
This was a historical moment for some of them to visit an African American Cemetery with such beautiful headstones with carvings and in-laid glass pictures set in beautiful granite…. After all, these were freed slaves laying beneath these carvings.

Funds are needed to clean and maintain the grave yard and the beautiful headstones and markers that were placed there so they will never be forgotten.
